Paramotoring is one of the safest form of aviation, in any form of aviation there are risks. With proper training and instructions ,the risks can be well managed , the rewards and personal challenge as a pilot in command on the other hand are just tremendous.
Our qualified instructors will teach how to fly safely, recognize the hazards and minimize the risks.
So what is Paramotoring?
Paramotoring is essentially paragliding with a motor. A suitable certified paraglider is used with a petrol engine (usually) rotating a propeller. The thrust generated by the propeller enable the pilot to take off from the ground and control the flying altitude. Equipment weight varies from about 15kg to 30kg to commensurate the pilot’s weight and flying preference. Paramotoring can either be foot launched or wheel launched (Trike or Quad)
Paramotoring would probably be the most affordable form of powered flight. Running cost is very low, a few litres of petrol would enable hours of flying fun.
How long does it take to learn to fly?
This depends on individual ability and weather conditions. An average beginner will take about 3-5 days to fly solo under radio instruction and supervision. Training consist of ground handling of paraglider , theory lessons on various topics like weather/ flying conditions, equipment checks/operations and fundamental aviation regulations. Training Simulator and videos will also accelerate the pace of learning.
A tandem flight with the instructor will instill confidence and prepare the trainee for the first solo flight.
During the early stages of training, a lot of focus is placed on proper launch techniques and control of the paraglider. The trainee will spend a considerable time inflating the paraglider and running with the paraglider overhead both with and without carrying the motor unit . Good control and coordination of paraglider and motor unit are essential for safe take off, flight and landing
With the trainee showing good ground control of the paraglider and having a good grasp of the topics covered, he or she will be able to go for the first supervised solo flight.
The first solo flight will always be a rewarding and unforgettable experience!
To be competent and autonomous (flying without supervision), more hours of supervised training are required.
As one become a safe and competent pilot , they can participate in cross country flights and participate in the many social flying events in Malaysia ,around the region as well as around the world.
Is Paramotoring training very difficult ?
Trainees need NOT be extremely fit. What is required is enthusiasm. A positive attitude, a desire to learn and an energetic approach is essential. Learning to fly a foot launched paramotor can be a tiring and sweaty affair . Be prepared to experience some soreness especially if you have not been exercising regularly. As you become more skilled and comfortable with the equipment, the soreness and aches will just ease away. Once airborne ,the weight of the paramotor is taken up by the glider and flying itself is almost relaxing Alternatively, trainees can opt to learn fly on wheels, wheel launched paramotors (trikes and quads) are easier to learn and not tiring as the pilot does not need to carry or run with the motor unit .
Do I need a licence?
In Malaysia, a Student Pilot License is required . A medical check up is also required. The school would arrange and process the licensing .
Do I need to have my own equipment?
During training, school equipment will be provided. Upon completion of the basic course ,the equipment can be rented for a nominal fee. Trainees will also learn more about equipment selection , operation and maintenance during the course. The school can also assist in equipment selection and purchase
How do I prepare and what do I need to bring? Expect to be in the outdoors for a extended period of time during the course, so bring plenty of drinking water ,light snacks and sunblock. Dress in light ,cool and comfortable shirt ,shorts and hat. Wear a comfortable pair of sports shoes for ground training , a comfortable pair of hiking boots offering ankle protection and long pants are recommended for flying.
